Couples Counselling in Vancouver

Where Do We Start?

First, let's explore outcomes:

You deserve a couples counselling experience that delivers both practical tools and facilitates deep emotional bonding. When we meet, you’ll be invited to explore how past experience influences current patterns of behaviours and emotions within the relationship.

❋ Structured Collaboration

In the first five or so sessions, we will centre our conversations on identifying different areas of strength and improvement in your relationship. Specifically, principles of The Gottman Method, Emotionally Focussed Couples Therapy, and the Developmental Model of Couples Therapy are explored.

❋ Connection is Everything

(Re)Connection is at the heart of the process. We will explore patterns of behaviour through an attachment and emotion focused lens. Relationships are in continuous flux of connection, disconnection, and reconnection. Trailheads will emerge to access understanding what is happening for you and your partner on a deeper level.

❋ Let Down Your Walls

Perhaps you have felt alone, burdened, shame. Those walls are up for a reason. Wherever you are, there is hope and you don’t need to do this alone. Let’s be radically curious about what is informing the need to protect yourself, and discover how the vulnerability underneath can feel safe to be seen.

❋ Being Attuned, Turning Towards

Learn to tune in to you and your partner’s unmet needs, and have your needs be met too. Yes, even when those needs are seemingly in opposition. There are unique ways you can turn towards each other and feel seen, and this process involves discovering them.

The First Few Steps:

“Both consciously and unconsciously we are looking to know: If I turn towards you, will you be there for me? Will you receive and accept me instead of attack, criticize, dismiss or judge me? Will you comfort me? Will you respond in a way that calms my nervous system? Do I matter to you? Do I make a difference in your life? Can we lean into and rely on each other?”
